Bifrost CLI is both:
  • a launcher for coding agents (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, and OpenCode) that routes them through Bifrost; and
  • a scriptable client for Bifrost inference, user-scoped usage, and management APIs.
Running bifrost with no command opens the interactive launcher. Every other command works directly from a shell or CI job.

OSS and Enterprise at a glance

Run bifrost resources list to see every resource command. Descriptions of Enterprise-only resources start with “Enterprise”.

Credential types

Bifrost separates inference credentials from management credentials. Each context stores its own set, so a credential for one environment is never sent to another.
Enterprise SSO does not authorize management APIs. Administrative commands always need a management API key, even after bifrost auth login.
When a context has both an SSO session and a virtual key, the CLI sends one inference credential: the SSO session for harnesses that support it, otherwise the virtual key. When both a management API key and a dashboard session are stored, the management API key is used.

Install the CLI

1

Run the installer

Node.js 18 or later is required.
The installer downloads the binary for your platform, verifies its SHA-256 checksum when one is published, and installs it to ~/.bifrost/bin/bifrost. On macOS and Linux it offers to add ~/.bifrost/bin to your shell PATH. On Windows, add %USERPROFILE%\.bifrost\bin to PATH yourself. To install a specific release, pass its tag:
To update an existing installation later, run bifrost update.
2

Verify the installation

Open a new terminal and run:
bifrost version prints the version and commit. bifrost auth --help lists the authentication actions.

Choose your setup

OSS setup

Connect to an open-source gateway with a virtual key.

Enterprise setup

Sign in with SSO and add a management API key.
Then continue with contexts, coding agents, and commands.
